Medicare enrollment help booked solid as BCBS drops plan
The Town of Princeton says Blue Cross Blue Shield canceled a popular Medicare plan, leaving seniors needing new coverage for 2027 while the Council on Aging's appointment slots are fully booked with a wait list.
The Town of Princeton announced Oct. 19 that this year's Medicare open enrollment period is bringing extra strain for local seniors after Blue Cross Blue Shield canceled a popular plan, the second such cancellation in as many years.
The town said the change is leaving many seniors "scrambling for support to make a new choice for 2027."
The town's Council on Aging is fully booked for enrollment assistance appointments and has a wait list, according to the announcement. The town said this is not unique to its own office: almost all Councils on Aging in the area are completely booked and continuing to be inundated with calls from people trying to schedule appointments.
Medicare open enrollment is the annual period when people on Medicare can review and change their coverage for the following year.
The town pointed residents to its Medicare Open Enrollment Resources page for a list of ways to get assistance, though it did not provide further detail on those options in the announcement.
