EAC textile drive collects 1,210 pounds of discards
Princeton's Environmental Action Committee collected 1,210 pounds of textiles at an Oct. 18 drive at the Princeton Municipal Light Department, with items to be donated, resold or recycled through a partnership with Helpsy.
Princeton's Environmental Action Committee (EAC) announced Oct. 22 that its latest textile drive collected 1,210 pounds of clothing and other items.
The drive took place Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Princeton Municipal Light Department (PMLD). Residents dropped off usable and worn-out clothes, shoes, towels, sheets, quilts, suitcases and other textiles that might otherwise have gone into the waste stream.
The collected materials will be donated, resold or recycled as industrial rags, paper or other goods through the EAC's partnership with Helpsy, a for-profit organization focused on keeping textiles out of the trash.
The EAC thanked PMLD for hosting the event and thanked residents for bagging and delivering their textiles. The committee plans to hold its next drive in May 2027 and encouraged residents to begin setting aside unwanted items.
Between drives, residents can drop off clean, dry textiles at collection bins around town, including the Red Cross bin in the PMLD parking lot and the Planet Aid bins near the Princeton House of Pizza. Questions can be directed to the EAC at [email protected]
